"On Solange’s sixteenth birthday, she is going to wake up dead. As if that’s not bad enough, she also has to outwit her seven overprotective older brothers, avoid the politics involved with being the only daughter born to an ancient vampire dynasty, and elude Kieran Black—agent of an anti-vampire league who is searching for his father’s killer and is intent on staking Solange and her entire family.Luckily she has her own secret weapon—her human best friend Lucy—who is willing to defend Solange’s right to a normal life, whether she’s being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange’s eternal life—Lucy and Solange’s brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black—in a dual romance that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover’s heart.Even fans of the genre who’ve seen it all will find a fresh read with kick-butt characters and family dynamics that ring true for all brothers and sisters—vampire or otherwise."
My thoughts:
Hearts At Stake is an awesome book filled with hot guys, vampires, action, and romance all tied in with a tint of humor which makes for an exciting thrill ride.
The main characters, Lucy and Solange, are best friends and I think the author portrayed their relationship really well. Lucy has the mellow parents who believe in karma, tofu, and have a peaceful center. She has a twist of humor that made her relatable. Solange, on the other hand, is the tough little sister that can tell her brothers how many times she's strong and can fight. The brothers. All of them had their own quirks and personalities that stood out from the page. Nicholas was totally swoon worthy and my favorite one out of the seven. Leading up to Logan, Quinn, and Connor coming in second, third, and fourth. But all of them were my favorite parts in the story and I wish there was more of them! Well, they're in there a lot, but still.
The chapters go back and forth between Lucy and Solange, and to me, I think that perfectly perfects the book even more. You get to see both sides of the friendship, almost like two stories that are all tied in together. It was amazing. The writing had ways of letting you swoon with the romance (not going to say who's with who), bite your nails with the action, and laugh with the characters. It was also descriptive, but not overly descriptive. That's always a plus, eh?
Overall, this is definitely a must read for anyone who loves vampires. It's not like your typical vampire story, it's much more...quirky and awesomer. (To me.) I cannot wait for the second book! [:
